Personality

Zafina is a woman with a cold front but a soft heart. Her nickname Ice Queen rings true because she is a severe person with a regal and commanding presence where she is harsh with her peers and coldly merciless to her enemies, often employing a justice-based schadenfreude as well. Sharp-tongued and highly combative, Zafina is no stranger to furious chastisements, especially toward those who fail to live up to her high standards and expectations. As such, she has no tolerance at all for weakness, lack of willpower, and toxic behavior, fostering great distaste for her rich contemporaries whom she views as spoiled brats who are privileged and have never suffered a day in their lives. Zafina has a strong work ethic to the point of being a workaholic and wants to get ahead in life based on her own talents instead of connections or money.

One would think that Zafina is judgmental and stuck-up from the way she carries herself but that's far from the truth. She's actually quite expansive and down-to-earth but you have to break through her ice wall in order to see it. Zafina's biggest issue is trust which is the primary reason for why she acts the way she does. She has a lot of pain and trauma that runs incredibly deep and she has become quite bitter and resentful of life, convinced that there isn't really anyone who actually cares about her or who she can trust in hence why she is a loner.

Zafina actually struggles with low self-esteem and self-worth and hides herself away from the world because she doesn't think she amounts to anything and is insignificant. But little does Zafina know, she has much to offer the world and is quite talented and wise. This is where her soft heart comes in. For the people who are lucky enough to get past her cold exterior, they see Zafina's hidden talents and interests as well as how kind and understanding she truly is. Zafina will often uplift her loved ones and give them advice on how to better themselves and their lives, her criticism being brusque and she uses a tough love approach which only amplifies it. But Zafina only acts this way because she wants her loved ones to be the best versions of themselves and she wants to place them on the most direct path forward.

Unbeknownst to most people, Zafina actually does have an expressive and even wild side that she's kept hidden away for years because of her jaded view on people. When around people that she trusts completely, Zafina starts to show more emotion and will even become physically and verbally affectionate towards them. Her true colors start to show and she shines like the rainbow she is when she's in good company. Zafina has much to offer the world but she has to come out of her ice cold shell in order to rise to her true potential.

Past: Being the youngest of 8 children, Zafina was born into a household filled with love, privilege, and chaos. There were many fun times and adventures in the Cartwright residence and Zafina had a happy early childhood. But when it came to school, things weren't so great. Zafina was severely bullied by her peers and was quite lonely and isolated. But things started to look up when she became lifelong friends with William LaMontagne Jr at the age of 13 and he defended her from bullies as well as helping her to build up her self-esteem and self-worth.

Upon enlisting in the Army at age 17, Zafina became a Combat Medic and enlisted in college with the goal of becoming a doctor, graduating with a Bachelor's in Pre-Med. This lead to her being promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and going to the Uniformed Services University to become a Field Surgeon. During her time there however, Zafina dealt with sexual harassment from Lieutenant Colonel Jack Travis and when she refused his advances, he devised a plan to rape her which he eventually did alongside two other officers while another officer (who was gay) held her down.

The experience broke Zafina and transformed her into the person she is today. She immediately reported the gang rape but the investigation was hell for her and she was even arrested for adultery due to one of the officers being married. Although Zafina didn't want to get her parents involved because she didn't want to disappoint them, they were eventually contacted and they were not happy.

Zafina was eventually released and the trial ensued with her giving a tearful testimony and having prior evidence of her previous sexual harassment from Travis just made the case even more air-tight despite the defense's attempts to humiliate Zafina and catch her in a lie. Travis and the other officers were convicted of raping her and they were sentenced 25 to life.

The charges against Zafina were dropped but it didn't come without its own struggles. The military attempted to give Zafina an honorable discharge but her parents put an immediate end to that. Zafina was able to continue her schooling and career but she had to deal with being an outcast which just made her heart even more cold and frigid but it slowly started to melt when she met Emmett Washington, an officer in the Navy who eventually became her boyfriend after numerous attempts at charming her.

After a year of dating, Emmett proposed to Zafina before he went to sea and during that time, she discovered she was pregnant and Emmett was overjoyed. He arrived home when Zafina was 7 months pregnant and after she had their son Wayne, the couple got eloped in Hawaii and had their honeymoon there also.

Throughout the years, Zafina had three daughters named Diana, Athena, and Trinity but cracks were starting to form and red flags began to show. Emmett would often come home with marks and bruises on his body, he would have late nights at work frequently, and contact during port calls was infrequent. Things only got worse when Zafina began to notice more and more female soldiers and civilians showing up at the hospital she worked at either as rape victims or in the morgue.

Zafina's worst fears were confirmed when the military police came knocking at her door, looking for Emmett. All along, he was a serial rapist and murderer and had many victims all over the country and even overseas. In all, Emmett raped 20 women and killed 15 women, starting at the mere age of only 14.

Feeling so many emotions at once but managing to become her cold, calculated self, Zafina devised a quick plan to escape after sending the kids to her parents. When Emmett got home from work, she knocked him unconscious with a cast iron skillet and tied him to the bed before he came to. It was then that Zafina confronted Emmett about the rapes and murders and called the MPs in the process. The man that Zafina fell in love with showed his true colors and revealed what he truly thought of her, even to the point of using her trauma against her which angered her even further and she proceeded to beat him with the same skillet until the military police came and stopped her.

Zafina immediately filed for divorce which was quickly granted when Emmett was sentenced to death under the Uniform Code Of Military Justice and she resolved to never fall in love again, only focusing on her career and raising her kids the best she can with the support of her family and friends.
