Past: Veronica's parents were high school sweethearts fresh out of graduation when she was born. While Cesar was away at Basic Training, Maria had an affair with a local drug dealer and left Cesar, stealing from him and taking Veronica with her.

In response, Cesar took Maria to court and the odds were in his favor, the judge awarding him with 50/50 custody. Unfortunately Veronica had to be exposed to her parents' constant battling and her mother's verbal and physical abuse towards her. Being bullied and outcasted by her peers for her intelligence and thought process just made things even worse for Veronica and she had a depressing, lonely childhood as a result of it all.

The only solace Veronica had throughout the years was her father and his new wife Julia who showered her with the love and affection that she desperately needed in her life. Filled with rage and jealousy over Cesar moving on, Maria began stalking him and Julia as well as alienating Veronica from them which lead to her running away to some points.

When Veronica was 13, she ran away one last time to her father's home and refused to go back home to her mother. Maria's response was coming to Cesar's house and shooting him multiple times in front of Veronica. Julia arrived home to find Maria trying to kidnap Veronica which lead to a large fight between them, resulting in Julia badly injuring Maria. The paramedics and police arrived within minutes but sadly Cesar was dead on arrival.

Maria was arrested and charged with Cesar's murder and since he was a high-ranking solider in the Army, the case was very high-profile and had lots of media attention. Despite being traumatized and filled with sorrow over losing her father, Veronica testified against her mother and exposed her for the monster she truly was. Maria was charged with third-degree murder and sentenced to death.

Following the trial and conviction, Veronica struggled with depression and grief to the point of self-destruction. She became known for having a snarky, bad attitude despite her high intelligence and her temper was quite fiery. Not wanting Veronica to go down the wrong path, Julia took her to therapy when she was 15 and she took a long, hard, depressing look at herself and what she was becoming as a result which made her change her disposition and outlook on life.

After graduating high school, Veronica made the decision to enlist in the Army like her father, wanting to follow in his footsteps and lead a life of service like he did. Her MOS was 68 Whiskey: Combat Medic.

Past: Josephine had an upbringing that most kids dreamed of. Loving parents, awesome siblings, endless support, the works. Although she didn't have the best social life outside of the home due to being bullied a lot, her family more than made up for it and gave her the light she needed to thrive. 

When she was 18, her life changed forever when she was introduced to Earl Chapman who was 12 years her senior. He was a rich CEO who had come to her college as a guest speaker in one of her classes. Josephine was instantly charmed by Earl and it wasn't long before they started dating. He was her first everything and a year later, she became pregnant with her first son Craig. That was when the cracks in their relationship started to form.

Earl wanted Josephine to drop out of college and marry him so she could become a stay-at-home mom but she refused and wanted to finish her education first. Thanks to her family backing her up, Josephine got her way and eventually finished her Bachelor's degree in Business 3 years later. By then, Josephine was already married to Earl and pregnant with her second son Miles. She also adopted Earl's two sons from his previous marriage: Earl Jr and Ike. 

Josephine wanted to start her own business but Earl forbade it and threatened to leave her and the boys if she didn't become a housewife. He had started to isolate Josephine from her family and friends and made her solely independent on him, not allowing her to have any kind of freedom from him unless it was heavily vetted by him.

The physical abuse began on their 5 year wedding anniversary when Josephine expressed that she wanted more freedom to do what she wanted. For the next 12 years, Josephine was constantly abused, belittled, and torn down by Earl to the point where she felt worthless and it was even worse because of Earl's constant infidelity and promiscuity. 

Eventually Josephine snapped and during one of Earl's beatings, she grabbed a cast iron skillet and brutally beat him with it to the point where he was unconscious and bleeding. She quickly grabbed everything she could possibly fit into her car, including all of the evidence she had made over the years of Earl's abuse as well as money. Josephine drove to her childhood home which was many hours away and her parents were horrified when they saw how bad she looked. 

For the first time in years, Josephine was reunited with her family and finally had the freedom that she deserved. But the battle was just beginning. Earl was furious with Josephine for leaving him and tried to use his many resources to stalk and find her but her family threatened him and Josephine filed for divorce, citing abuse and infidelity with all of her evidence.

However Josephine fell gravely ill and had to be hospitalized. It was during this time that she discovered that she was HIV-positive, having been infected by Earl. She lost all will to live and fight and a week after she was released from the hospital, Josephine had decided to end her own life and went to a local bridge in the middle of the night, planning to jump from it. But she was intercepted by Dante who was returning from a job and trying to talk her down. It took two hours for Dante to convince Josephine to not go through with her plan and he decided to escort her home, continuing to talk to her as he did so. 

Meeting Dante inspired Josephine to keep living and it ignited a fire within her like never before. She started treatment for her HIV and mental health treatment as well. With her family having her back, Josephine stood up against Earl during the divorce process and thanks to her evidence against him, she took him to the cleaners despite him having good, expensive lawyers. 

Earl went bankrupt because of Josephine taking everything from him and his company went under as a result. His sons also wanted nothing to do with him because of how abusive he was over the years. This caused Earl to go completely insane and using the last of what he had, he managed to track down Josephine and attempted to kill her. But he was stopped by her twin brother and sister-in-law and arrested on the spot after being badly beaten by them. Earl was charged with attempted murder and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

Josephine decided to finally follow her dreams and opened up her own restaurant which became a quick success and now she's a successful businesswoman working to make the world a better place and help others.

History: Olivier had a rough upbringing. His mother Claudia gave birth to him when she was 14 and was kicked out by her parents as a result. She was taken in by the father Percy's parents but they broke up due to their inability to stop fighting. Despite their differences, they had a good co-parenting relationship until Claudia turned 18 and graduated from high school. She moved out and got a place of her own, taking Olivier with her. Working as a waitress, it was difficult to make ends meet. Claudia soon got tied up in the drug trade and became a partying alcoholic. As a result, Olivier was usually home alone. When Percy heard about it, he moved in, wanting to take care of his son if Claudia wouldn't do it. Olivier was exposed to his parents fighting and arguing about Claudia's wild behavior and began to act out as a result, becoming a punk and street brawler. He soon changed his ways when at the age of 15, he and his best friend Julio were jumped by a gang. Although Olivier tried to protect himself and Julio, it was in vain. Julio was killed and Olivier was left for dead. Three years later, he graduated from high school and Percy proposed to Claudia who had decided to clean herself up and become a better mother. Olivier went off to UCLA and his parents got married. While in college, he decided to open up his own tech shop dedicated to selling electronics and fixing them which was just what he did after graduating.
