~~About The Character~~

Personality: One of Kimiko's most obvious traits is that she's very driven. She likes to execute and isn't all talk. Kimiko is fearless and stubborn and even when life gets a little tricky, she merely takes it on the chin and keeps going. It takes a lot to bring her down. She's very intuitive and astute, having an amazing quality for seeing through people's bullshit.

Once someone gains a friend in Kimiko, they are rewarded with intense loyalty and companionship. Passion rules her entire life with an iron fist and she can love or hate equally. She has little interest in superficial connections, seeking out depth and passion in her relationships. Kimiko is very family-oriented and is the pure definition of a matriarch. Family comes first and she always makes sure to be there for her loved ones, providing any kind of support and love they need.

Kimiko should never be taken lightly. She isn't flaky, fluffy, or helpless by any stretch of the imagination. Direct and brilliantly sharp, Kimiko only focuses on the fundamental essence of any issue and disregards the superfluous. She wants to understand everything and knows how to craft just the right question to obtain the answers she seeks.

Kimiko has a motherly side to her especially when it comes to younger people. She's very wise and while she is very loving, she is also stern and usually takes a "tough love" approach, demanding excellence from those she respects or considers important.

However underneath her motherly, outside image, Kimiko does indeed have a dark side. She's often dogmatic and bossy and when combined with her stubbornness, that can make her difficult to work with and sadly she often has to end up finding things out the hard way instead of listening to people's advice. She has a short fuse and her impatience only makes it worse. Kimiko has a rather sensitive pride and doesn't like being wrong which is why her flaws are so apparent to those who don't know her very well and even those who care about her. She is a rebel and is well known for going against tradition especially when it comes to love. Scandalous is the perfect word to describe Kimiko when it comes to relationships.

Kimiko isn't afraid to break a rule to do what's right and won't give up if she believes something is amiss. Her moral code is high and unbending no matter what the situation calls for. But it is also quite grey and can anger some people.

Goals/Motivations/Dreams: N/A

~~Her Relationship With Others~~

Reputation: As her nickname "Mama Kim" indicates, Kimiko is well-respected and loved amongst the Soul Society and people will often come to her for advice, favors, or just to have a good time. When it comes to commanding the Detention Unit and supervising the Nest Of Maggots, she treats the prisoners and her subordinates fairly and humanely, regardless of their crime or history. This has earned her respect and loyalty amongst them in return. However her history with love and relationships is often the contention of gossip amongst her fellow Reapers and has even earned her scorn and dislike. Kimiko's various flaws can also rub people the wrong way, especially those who are more respectful towards rules and superiors in general as well as traditional or collective when it comes to how they view society.

Love Interest(s): Jushiro Ukitake (Deeply Loves Him), Shunsui Kyoraku (Has Feelings For Him), Byakuya Kuchiki (Complicated), Soi Fon (Has A Crush), Kukaku Shiba (Has A Crush), or Tatsuki Arisawa (Likes Her)

Friends:
  • World Of The Living: Ichigo Kurosaki, Uryu Ishida, Orihime Inoue, Yasutora "Chad" Sado, Tatsuki Arisawa, Kisuke Urahara, Yoruichi Shihoin
  • Soul Society: Kimiko has many friends in the Soul Society because of her reputation.

Relationships:

Jushiro Ukitake: Jushiro is one of Kimiko's closest and longtime friends. They met thanks to her first husband Jin Echizen being a friend of his and inviting him to their wedding. Jushiro and Kimiko danced together and their friendship flourished from there.

Jushiro and Kimiko deeply care for one another and act like a married couple. They can often be seen together especially when Jushiro falls ill during which Kimiko will usually tend to him and keep him company. Two of her stepsons are in his squad and he always makes sure to look out for their well-being per Kimiko's request.

Jushiro and Kimiko have much potential to be romantic partners but it depends on who makes the first move.

Shunsui Kyoraku: Shunsui and Kimiko are longtime friends similar to the friendship she shares with Jushiro. Her stepdaughter Junko and stepson Jin were in his squad and were killed during a hollow attack the day before she and her second husband Eiji were to be wed. Shunsui was the one who notified the couple and he attended the ceremony and subsequent funeral.

Shunsui and Kimiko often exchange flirtatious and witty banter much to the amusement of those around them and it's easy to see why they're so close. They can often be seen drinking together as well and in battle, they make an excellent team. Kimiko often confides in Shunsui about things that she doesn't tell anyone else so he knows about the majority of her dirty little secrets and knows her better than most people.

Kimiko has feelings for Shunsui that she shows quite often in as many ways as she can, hoping that he feels the same way.

Byakuya Kuchiki: Byakuya and Kimiko go way back. They met as kids when the Kuchiki clan came to a festival that the Osaki clan was attending and they've been friends ever since.

The relationship of Byakuya and Kimiko is complex and very ambiguous since they don't share their feelings about each other often, even though they're more than obvious to those around them. Strong respect, mutual admiration and reciprocal feelings (although distant) join these two figures in a very strong relationship. They often find themselves wavering between platonic friendship and genuine romance on a regular basis.

Because of how complicated things are with them, Kimiko isn't sure how to feel about Byakuya and is even considering calling it quits since she hates uncertainty and wants to know where things are going.

Soi Fon: It goes without saying that Soi Fon and Kimiko are captain and subordinate and met each other when Kimiko was recruited to the Second Division.

While their relationship seems like a typical one between a captain and officer, behind closed doors things between them are rather different. Kimiko is very loyal towards Soi Fon and highly respects her but isn't afraid to tell her if she disagrees with her or dislikes her actions. This can sometimes lead to arguments between them but their synergy in battle more than makes up for this issue. It's not uncommon to see them sparring against one another as well, having a competitive rivalry.

What was once respect and admiration for Soi Fon has turned into infatuation and a crush that Kimiko is skeptical about pursuing because of the dangers of mixing business with pleasure.

Kukaku Shiba: The Shiba and Osaki clans have been close for generations which would make Kukaku and Kimiko childhood friends.

The two women get along rather well since their personalities are so similar to one another. Since Kukaku moves around frequently and without warning, Kimiko doesn't see her as often as she used to but whenever they're in the same location, a lot of chaos is sure to follow. Kimiko always comes to Kukaku for advice when it comes to explosives and anything else requiring her expertise.

Sexual tension between the fiery pair is at an all-time high and they often show it by flirting and teasing each other. Where their relationship goes is dependent on who snaps first.

Tatsuki Arisawa: Kimiko and Tatsuki have a mentor/student relationship which started when Kimiko saved Tatsuki while she was in The World Of The Living on a mission.

Tatsuki reminds Kimiko of how she was when she was younger and that's why she's so fond of her. Kimiko often teaches Tatsuki various martial arts moves and spars with her frequently, wanting her to become an excellent fighter. Tatsuki obviously doesn't know that Kimiko is a Soul Reaper and this is easily the main conflict between them. Kimiko tries to distance herself from Tatsuki so she won't get too attached to the World Of The Living but she finds it too difficult because of how much she likes her and her overall presence.

Because of Kimiko's secrecy alongside her hot/cold demeanor, her relationship with Tatsuki is a "will they, won't they" situation as well as slightly forbidden due to them being from two different worlds.

~~Her Abilities~~

Fighting Style: Being Corps Commander of the Detention Unit, Kimiko is a master of Hakuda and Shunpo as is required of her. She only saves her Zanpaktou for powerful enemies.

Zanpaktou: Eien No Komori (Eternal Lullaby)

Zanpaktou Element: Kimiko uses the command "Sing my sword! Eien No Komori!" to activate her zanpaktou. It transforms into a multi-segmented whip that can expand and contract at will as well as break apart into many pieces. The main ability stems from the music that can emanate from the various segments of the whip state. Once an opponent hears the music, it continues to play in their head, leading to hallucinations, illusions, and disorientation.

Zanpaktou Spirit

She is blunt and to the point, not liking to mince words. Very observant and perceptive, fooling her is nearly impossible to do and this makes her the voice of reason on and off the battlefield. She loves the arts and is a gifted musician and singer, her voice and tunes able to capture and sway any audience.

Zanpaktou Appearances

Sealed: A snake sword with an intricate hilt in the shape of a music note
Shikai: A multi-segmented whip with the same hilt

~~Her Biography~~

Family:
Mother: Ayane Osaki (nee Takagi) | Alive
Father: Shinichi Osaki | Alive
Younger Sister: Kasumi Osaki | Alive
Younger Brother: Hayate Osaki | Alive
Husband: Eiji Honjo | Deceased
Ex-husband: Jin Echizen | Alive
Kimiko also has four biological children (two from each marriage), eight (two of whom are deceased) stepchildren from Eiji (whom she claims as her own), and fourteen grandchildren.

Familial Background: The Osaki family is a hard-working but lower middle-class family. Being the oldest of three children, Ayane and Shinichi kept Kimiko's head in the books and taught her how to be responsible as well as instilling great morals and ethics into her that she would use to carry herself throughout her life and career as a Soul Reaper.

Character Background: From the time Kimiko was a child, she dreamed of being a Soul Reaper and with her clan's blessing, took the entrance exam for the Soul Reaper Academy and passed with flying colors. Although Kimiko did well in all her classes, her main expertise was Hakuda and when she graduated from the Academy, she joined the Stealth Force under the Executive Militia.

Kimiko's life only continued to change when she met an older man named Eiji Honjo (who was married to his third wife at the time) and for the next ten years, they had an on-and-off romantic relationship and an even closer friendship, even marrying other people and seeing each other behind their spouses' backs. Kimiko's career flourished and she got promoted to 3rd Seat, becoming Corps Commander of the Detention Unit. Following this, she and Eiji finally became a couple again following their respective divorces and moved in together, blending their families and having two children together in addition to the ten they had from previous marriages. 6 years later, Kimiko became Eiji's fifth wife and he became her second husband.

But their bliss was short-lived as Eiji was killed during an important mission four years later. Although he was highly honored as a hero, it did little to quell the intense pain and grief in Kimiko's heart. Losing Eiji was a nearly fatal blow for the Honjo family but thanks to Kimiko taking charge and being strong, they made it through and came back stronger than ever.

Now the family matriarch and leader, Kimiko is still the Corps Commander of the Detention Unit albeit much more seasoned and she's much wiser and experienced than she was when she first became a Soul Reaper.
