Josephine has what many would describe as a black, smoldered heart filled with anger and rage. She doesn't give two fucks about mostly anything and everything and mostly wants to watch the world burn. Josephine is a daredevil and likes to live life to the fullest, no matter how dangerous her activities may be. She loves power and dominance but a good challenge always gets her blood pumping. If there's one thing Josephine hates most, it's losing.
Her attitude is often flippant, teasing, sarcastic, and rebellious with no regard for authority or anyone else for that matter, her lack of empathy quite astounding at times. She's the very definition of a bad girl and does whatever she wants when she wants. Josephine has a depressing and bleak outlook on life which isn't surprising considering her attitude. She's not to be trifled with and she makes sure everyone around her knows it. One wrong move can resort in a fierce, sharp tongue-lashing from Josephine.
Her past is the prime reason why she acts the way she does. Many events made her fragile mind snap, fall apart, and piece back together into the person that she is now. Josephine's guarded, distant, and often rude behavior stems from how angry and wounded she is which she also hides by being fiery and bittersweet. But deep down, Josephine does indeed have a big heart and she will help someone in need although she will give them a dose of tough love along the way. She retaliated by stabbing the guy to death with a knife and Anthony nearly beat her to death because the man was his drug dealer. Julian grabbed Anthony's gun and shot him in response. All of this happened the day that their mother was due to return home from deployment and when she came home, the carnage she saw completely blew her mind.

Anthony was taken to the hospital in critical condition and arrested once he recovered enough. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison. But the nightmare was far from over. Carol was now a single mother and was medically retired from the military due to losing her leg while trying to get her law degree. Anthony had cleaned out their joint bank account before she came home so they had no money for bills or food. Carol applied for emergency assistance and veteran's benefits but it would be months before any real money would come in. They became homeless and had to move in with Carol's mother which was less than ideal due to her being very religious and toxic.
Living under her grandmother's roof was absolute hell for Josephine and she started to rebel loudly as she went through puberty, slowly changing into a different person to cope with all the trauma she had dealt with. Thankfully Carol's military benefits eventually kicked in which led to her finally being able to get a place of her own, moving to Ipswich, and going back to school to finish her law degree so she could accomplish her dream to become a prosecutor. When Josephine was 12, Carol started dating an OB/GYN named Carter Harrington and they got married a year later. Two years after that, Carol gave birth to a girl that she named Athena.
Although Josephine was finally experiencing stability and the true love of a real family, it wasn't enough to quell the demons inside of her and she continued to rebel and misbehave which gave Carol and Carter many headaches.
Finally having enough of how she was acting, they decided to send Josephine to Spenser Academy so she could receive a proper education and be surrounded by people who could possibly be a good influence on her.
