~~Personality/Additional Info~~

 

Athena is a confident and independent woman with entrepreneurial ambitions. Though she has goals she's working towards, she's quite happy with her life and has an aura of contentedness around her. Athena is a real go-getter and has energy for days. She loves new experiences and adventures, always looking for something to do so she won't get bored. Athena values honesty, responsibility, and stability to the fullest and tries to uphold those values the best she can. She is loyal to a fault and very protective of her family and friends whom she holds in high regards.

 

Athena is rather intelligent to the point where she could be considered a genius but she hides it underneath a laid-back demeanor with a hard, tough edge. Due to having gone through terrible hardships, Athena puts on a tough, sassy front to protect herself from further harm and she absolutely refuses to speak about her past, wanting to put it behind her and forget it ever happened. Her wounds and subsequent trauma run quite deep and she hides it all underneath her success, her roughness, and her adventures.

 

Despite popular opinion, Athena is capable of staying still and can be quite the homebody during her down time. She has many hobbies that she can easily do at home and she likes to follow a set schedule so she can make time to relax and spend time with her family and friends. Organization is everything to Athena and she also likes to have a back-up plan in case things go wrong, also valuing preparation.

 

On the negative side, Athena can be quite vindictive which is a result of her trauma. If she or anyone she cares about has been wronged, she will not stop until she's satisfied with her revenge and she's more than willing to resort to unethical or even illegal measures to get it. Athena is definitely capable of holding a grudge and she is extremely stubborn when in conflict with someone because of her pride and desire to win. If she feels like she's in the right, she will continue to maintain that stance for as long as it takes. Athena isn't afraid of confrontation either and she will not back down no matter what since she's quite bold.

 

Athena does not like authority or rules and is quite rebellious when faced with it. No one tells her what to do or how to act. She marches to the beat of her own drum and prefers to be a leader instead of a follower. Athena definitely has a wild and hedonistic side that will often come out when her emotions are at an all-time high and it can lead to some self-destructive behaviors on her part.

~~History/Biography~~

 

Athena's childhood was normal yet active despite her suffering from asthma and from the age of 5, she had an interest in dueling that didn't go unnoticed by her mother who was a former professional duelist. Underneath her tutelage, Athena became one of the best duelists in her hometown and at age 12, she met the man who would change her life forever: Jeremy Murtaugh who was a friend of her mother's.

He was 18 years her senior and she instantly gravitated towards him because he made her feel beautiful and worthy. Jeremy had become Athena's mentor and her growing interest in dueling only made their relationship even stronger since he was a professional duelist. 

When Athena was 13, her younger brother Teshawn was abducted from a department store while she was out shopping with him and her friends. After extensive searching and numerous coverage, his body was found two weeks later. To make matters more stressful, Athena's parents had decided to divorce due to her father coming out as gay. Athena was devastated and completely shut down, only opening up to Jeremy and relying completely on him. He took advantage of this and she lost her virginity to him when she was 14 which made their relationship quite sexual and deviant. At this point, Jeremy had started to become manipulative and controlling. 

Athena applied to enter Duel Academy behind Jeremy's back but there was one major obstacle in her way: she was pregnant. In response, Jeremy decided to marry her in secret. Due to Athena being underage, Jeremy bribed a government employee to obtain a fake ID for her which was then used to obtain a marriage license that listed her as 18 instead of 15. At that point, Athena's parents were getting worried about her change in demeanor and how she was changing physically. But she refused to speak and shut herself off from everyone who loved her at that point. The only person in her world was Jeremy as far as anyone was concerned.

But everything came to light one night when Jeremy discovered that Athena was trying to get into Duel Academy. He violently raped and beat her but Athena managed to escape after stabbing him with a knife and called her mother before passing out. When she woke up, she was in a hospital bed and her baby was gone. Due to the beating that Jeremy gave her, Athena had miscarried which caused everything to come to light.

Athena's parents were furious and got the marriage between her and Jeremy annulled but not before Carmelita placed him under arrest. Athena was too terrified to speak up but thanks to the encouragement of her fellow duelists and her family, she decided to do so in order to prevent Jeremy from doing what he did to other girls.

To make the case even more airtight against Jeremy, Athena gave one of his laptops to her mother which contained numerous videos of them engaging in sexual acts together as well as with other underage girls. Athena also gave the police an external hard drive which contained videos of Jeremy's abuse against her as well as a video diary in which she talked about their relationship in great detail and how it was destroying her relationship with her family.

In order to keep Athena safe during the investigation, she was sent to Duel Academy to start her education but she still wasn't free from Jeremy. He kept intimidating and blackmailing her to keep her from speaking out and testifying but Athena wouldn't budge thanks to her new environment allowing her to flourish and thrive. She kept records of all conversations between them to hurt him even further as well.

By the time the trial began, there was so much evidence against Jeremy alongside Athena's emotional testimony that the jury was only out for 30 minutes before reaching a verdict: Guilty.

Jeremy is now currently in prison awaiting sentencing and Athena is continuing to heal from the ordeal but her demons still come back to haunt her and continue to shine through.
