Life Story: Candace's mother Leeandra was very immoral, promiscuous, and devoid of all manner in her youth. Her sexual adventures resulted in Candace and her older brother Benjamin being born and she had to raise them by herself without any of their fathers around. At the age of five, Candace was molested and raped by a man named Dylan that her mother was dating. Despite her mother having him arrested, Candace internalized the pain and began to go down a dark path while Leeandra became a Christian, determined to live her life right.

Starting at age 7, she began stealing and lying compulsively and by age 13, she was hanging with the wrong crowd, becoming sexually active, and running away from home. Candace learned her many artifices and maneuvers from a close mentor/cousin of hers named Steve who was a transvestite. On her 16th birthday, she stole Leeandra's mortgage money and a big argument ensued which led to Candace moving out on her own.

Steve's death only fueled the stirring fire within Candace and when she met the 450 year old spirit of a singer named Lilith, she decided to become a shaman and asked Lilith to become her guardian ghost. Now Candace currently travels and drifts from place to place, doing various activities to get by, including illegal ones.

Personality: Candace is a secretive, scandalous, roguish, and crafty jezebel with a very mischievous, flippant, saucy, presumptuous, and extremely nervy attitude. Often she subjugates others through her many forms of manipulation, extortion, low blows, and dirt she's able to obtain on people. Unprincipled and unscrupulous, Candace often engages in rather questionable activities and thuggish behaviors such as conning/robbing, being an escort and mistress, engaging in elaborate forms of blackmail, etc.

Candace often expresses a discontentment with growing up with nothing and the dysfunctional family life she feels was brought on by her mother's bad choices and sexual immoralities. As a result, she longs for wealth and power and will go to any and all lengths to rise to the top, not caring what it takes. Candace will even exhibit some signs of possible psychopathic behavior and often uses her feminine wiles to get what she wants.

Candace has a chameleon, street-smart nature that enables her to blend in with any crowd and she's excellent at reading and profiling people. Virgil Hawkins: Carmelita met Virgil while she was in high school and she instantly gravitated to him, becoming fast friends with him.

Carmelita deeply cares about Virgil and will always be loyal to him no matter what. Virgil's one of the few people who knows about her traumatic past leading up to the birth of her daughter which shows just how much she trusts and likes him.

Carmelita isn't afraid to show her feelings for Virgil and enjoys flirting and toying with him. She is also quite protective of Virgil and is always ready to come to his defense. Spending time with him is a very common pasttime for Carmelita.

Carmelita was instantly entranced by Bruce when she first met him and it wasn't hard for her to develop a crush on him. To make matters even crazier, Carmelita's secret girlfriend Veronica was an employee at Wayne Industries and Bruce was responsible for introducing them to one another which makes their connection even deeper.

Carmelita keeps in contact with Bruce and she finds him comforting to be around. She really looks up to him and wishes that she could be as powerful as him. Her infatuation with Bruce is pretty obvious to those around her and she's not afraid to turn on her seductive charm so she can toy with him a bit. Carmelita also has a grief connection with Bruce since she also lost her parents to senseless violence just like he did and therefore she can relate to him better than most people can.

Carmelita also feels like she can share her strong sense of justice with Bruce and that he seems to understand why she is the way she is as opposed to trying to change her or criticize her. This makes her relationship with Bruce possibly one of her most intimate emotionally.

Familial Background: Carmelita's parents were hard workers and wanted nothing but the best for their two daughters. They led a decent, middle-class life and the Kirkpatrick sisters had a normal, happy childhood until tragedy struck and changed their lives forever.

Character Background: When Carmelita was 8, her parents were murdered during a carjacking. She and her older sister Yvette were handed over to their aunt Shavon who was twice divorced with three sons and suffered from PTSD alongside borderline personality disorder. She was loving but also volatile towards all the kids and over the years, Carmelita's cousins went down a dark path which led to Travis going to prison, Richard being kicked out of the house due to his drug use, and Teshawn murdered by a local gang. When Yvette turned 21, Shavon kicked her and 19 year old Carmelita out, causing the two to move in with Yvette's boyfriend Floyd.

At first, things were finally going well for once in Carmelita's life but six months later, Floyd began to make sexual advances towards her which soon escalated to rape. The incidents continued to happen for a year and a half until Yvette walked in on them. Taking Floyd's side over Carmelita's, Yvette kicked her out. To make matters worse, Shavon sided with Yvette as well, meaning Carmelita had no place to stay and was homeless.

After wandering the streets for a while, Carmelita was approached by a man named William Black and was taken in by him. He became her sugar daddy and she soon found herself working in his strip club as well as hanging out around the wrong crowd. Black didn't like Carmelita stripping and suggested that she go to college instead which she followed since she always wanted to be a judge. But Carmelita still continued to party and go out with friends whenever possible to blow off some steam.

Things between them went well for a year before Black began to abuse Carmelita physically and became controlling over her. It only increased after Carmelita became romantically involved with another woman named Veronica Hawkins who worked for Bruce Wayne. Carmelita eventually managed to escape Black and ran away to one of his security guards with whom Veronica was staying with off and on.

But Black tracked her down which led to a shootout between him and Veronica, the result being their deaths. Carmelita later discovered she was pregnant and decided to continue her schooling as well as stopping her partying, giving birth to a baby girl that she named after Veronica. Now she's a law student working as a stripper to make ends meet and take care of her daughter's needs.

Having gone through many things, Maria is tough and hardened as a result. She's determined and relentless, unable to be stopped once she makes up her mind. Past: Maria was born in South Side Chicago under impoverished circumstances. Her mother Claudia had her at 15 and was a struggling teen parent. Fortunately she had the support of Maria's father Alejandro who took up illegal street racing to take care of them. Starting from the age of 5, Maria took an interest in cars and began to spend more time with her dad who introduced her to that world and it wasn't long before she was actually repairing things with him despite being only a child.

Unfortunately when Maria was 12, Alejandro passed away due to complications from diabetes. His death shook Maria to her core and she began to act out on her grief and anger, taking up street dancing in addition to cars. Maria also had the support of her group of friends especially William Wayne who later became her boyfriend when she was 14.

At the age of 16, Maria was arrested and taken to the local police station for street racing and aggravated assault. She was raped by the cop who arrested her and instead of being silent, Maria reported him and got a rape kit done. She had to endure harassment from the Chicago PD, often resulting in violence which only stopped when her stepfather Erron threatened to sue them and recorded everything as evidence. Unfortunately the former cop was acquitted due to having power in the court system. Maria was enraged and brutally beat him to within an inch of his life with a socket wrench. She is extremely distrusting of law enforcement because of this incident.

Despite having the sympathy of the public and the jury, Maria was sentenced to five years in prison at the age of 18. Prison life was hell for Maria and her growing depression only made things worse. To make matters even more harrowing, Maria was a month pregnant when she was sentenced to prison and she gave birth to a son that she named William Wayne Jr. Her relationship with William continued despite this and once Maria was released from prison, they eloped in the Dominican Republic and she began to seek treatment for her depression once William took her to New York with their son in tow.

William had opened a shop called Slick Will Repairs while Maria was in prison and she instantly found her calling there, rejoining the world of cars and street racing. But their marital bliss was short-lived when William died from a freak accident three years later. A biker suffered a hydraulics malfunction and spun out of control, sending his bike flying from under him into a row of parked bikes, one of which headed right into William, throwing him through a window and killing him instantly.

His death was devastating not only for Maria but for the community that surrounded them as well because of how much he meant to everyone and how he invested in people. She also discovered that she was pregnant with twins and gave birth to her daughters Serena and Selena. Determined to keep William's legacy alive, Maria took over the shop as expected and is now the sole owner of it. She still races from time to time, often using it to escape and make extra money.

The Benitez family moved around frequently and Carmelita's way of dealing with it was by distancing herself from her peers and becoming a rebellious bad girl. Zafina is a woman with a cold front but a soft heart. Her nickname Ice Queen rings true because she is a severe person with a regal and commanding presence where she is harsh with her peers and coldly merciless to her enemies, often employing a justice-based schadenfreude as well. Sharp-tongued and highly combative, Zafina is no stranger to furious chastisements, especially toward those who fail to live up to her high standards and expectations. As such, she has no tolerance at all for weakness, lack of willpower, and toxic behavior, fostering great distaste for her rich contemporaries whom she views as spoiled brats who are privileged and have never suffered a day in their lives. Zafina has a strong work ethic to the point of being a workaholic and wants to get ahead in life based on her own talents instead of connections or money.

 

One would think that Zafina is judgmental and stuck-up from the way she carries herself but that's far from the truth. Past: Being the youngest of 8 children, Zafina was born into a military household that was filled with love, privilege, and chaos. There were many fun times in the Cartwright residence and Zafina had a happy early childhood, moving around quite often because of her parents' military careers which ended after they both retired. But when it came to school, things weren't so great. From the age of 12, Zafina was bullied and harassed to the point where she completely shut down and tried to commit suicide when she was 14 but was found by her older sister Beth just in time. The bullying was due to students being jealous of Zafina's talents involving music and because Zafina showed various symptoms of having Type 1 diabetes.

Zafina was evaluated and diagnosed with clinical depression for which she promptly began to get treatment and was put on medication as well to combat it. Recognizing Zafina's talent for music, her parents decided to send her to Blackwell Academy along with her twin sister Zuri to hone her skills and because of how prestigious it was. Zafina quickly gained a reputation as the Ice Queen of Blackwell and had difficulty making friends despite her talents clearly shining through. But Zafina did manage to become friendly with a few students from various cliques, including the Vortex Club.

Now that Zafina's a senior, she's one step closer to achieving her dreams but she still has difficulty maintaining her friendships and relationships due to her cold and closed-off nature.

Past: Born to an African-American father and Japanese mother, Gwendolyn's destiny was set in stone from birth. From the time she learned to walk, she showed an interest in dancing which her parents noticed and they decided to enroll their youngest daughter in dancing classes. Gwendolyn quickly became one of her teacher's best students over the years and her main style of dancing was hip-hop although she liked experimenting with other styles as well, wanting to be more diverse. She also showed great talent with technology and code which only made her more of an outcast because of her gender.

Outside of dance and tech however, Gwendolyn didn't fair very well. Because of her mixed heritage, she was often bullied and became a reclusive outcast, only keeping to herself and being quite shy and meek. The only solace she had outside of school was her family as she often had to deal with cattiness from the fellow girls in her dance class due to her talent and mixed heritage. When Gwendolyn's mom suggested she take up MMA training at the age of 10, she decided to do so which shot her confidence up and enabled her to stand up to her more physical bullies.

Despite all of the bullies trying to keep her down, Gwendolyn persevered and continued to shine, even finding friends that were either foreigners or mixed race like her and beginning to get out more, truly experiencing life for the first time. She graduated from high school and got a scholarship to Nihon Kogakuin College thanks to her dancing and hacking talents, double majoring in Dance and Systems Engineering.

Now Gwendolyn's enjoying her newfound freedom as a college student and is working very hard to become a better person and find her place in society.

Josephine has what many would describe as a black, smoldered heart filled with anger and rage. She doesn't give two fucks about mostly anything and everything and mostly wants to watch the world burn. Josephine is a daredevil and likes to live life to the fullest, no matter how dangerous her activities may be. She loves power and dominance but a good challenge always gets her blood pumping. If there's one thing Josephine hates most, it's losing.

Past: Josephine's mother Carol was a prostitute junkie who frequently traded her for money and drugs. When she was 9, her mother disappeared and never came back. All alone, Josephine wandered the streets of Chicago, trying to survive which was very difficult because of her having diabetes. In order to get any insulin, Josephine was often forced to trade her body and would team up with other homeless kids so she wouldn't be alone. At the age of 13, Josephine's life went from rags to riches when she attempted to rob Jasmine Sinclair, a 16 year old girl walking home from school.

The robbery attempt was thwarted easily thanks to Jasmine's martial arts skills and Josephine instantly gravitated towards the older girl which led to her being taken in by the Sinclair family. She went from rags to riches overnight, finally having the love of a real family and being treated to the best money could offer due to the Sinclairs being very wealthy.

Josephine and Jasmine's relationship became blurred between sisterhood and romance but before they had the chance to take things further, Jasmine died in a car accident on Josephine's 14th birthday. The tragedy destroyed the young girl from the inside out and she slowly began to change into a completely different person. Concerned about her future, Jasmine's parents sent Josephine to Spencer Academy in Salem when she turned 15, hoping that it would change her attitude.
