Carmelita has a short temper that is easily blown and she isn't afraid to speak her mind. She talks crudely because she doesn't trust most people. She's also quite independent, stubborn, and prideful. Carmelita is sadistic and dark and has a habit of creeping people out when she reveals that side of her. She's very competitive and loves to win. She is a confident natural-born leader, cares for all of her friends and subordinates deeply, and will fight to the finish for them to the point of risking her life. She is a closet pervert and has very little limits and inhibitions when it comes to sex. Carmelita has a tendency to get into trouble frequently due to her rebellious nature and short temper. She's very tough and isn't afraid to fight or get her hands dirty if she feels it's necessary.

Izumi Curtis: Being friends with Izumi for nearly 20 years, she is one of the few people Carmelita will completely open up to. Izumi is the godmother of Carmelita's children and grandchildren and takes that role seriously, being as involved in their lives as she can be. Carmelita is also one of Izumi's best customers, often purchasing food from her shop.
Olivier Armstrong: Carmelita met Olivier while she went to Fort Briggs on a mission with Charles who had a long history with her. Their friendship was almost instantaneous due to their similar natures and philosophies and they also share an intense yet friendly rivalry. It's not uncommon to see the two women around each other frequently whether on or off duty and they make a fearsome team in battle as one would expect.
Maes Hughes: Carmelita came to know Maes thanks to Roy and they became instant friends. While she was pregnant with her second child, she asked Maes to be the godfather of her kids which he gladly accepted. She's one of the few people who doesn't get annoyed from his craziness about his family and she finds his personality and attitude very refreshing to be around. However Carmelita does get irritated at Maes' tendency to constantly try and hook her up with Roy, often teasing them openly. She is considered a part of the Hughes family and makes sure to look after Maes' well-being so he can go home to his wife and daughter unscathed.
Riza Hawkeye: Carmelita is around Riza almost as much as she is around Roy and the two have become close as a result. Being a master of the dark arts, Charles began to train Carmelita in dark alchemy, her interest in him becoming apparent from the very moment they met despite him being married to his third wife at the time and her feelings were eventually reciprocated despite Charles having second doubts at first. Their relationship quickly transformed from student and teacher to lovers on her 19th birthday and she had mastered Charles' teachings and passed the State Alchemist certification exam, earning the name "Shadow Alchemist" and the rank of Major at age 20.
Charles and Carmelita's relationship became on and off, even marrying other people in the process despite the obvious love and passion they held for one another which lead to them still seeing each other behind their spouses' backs.
Three years passed before Carmelita's life changed forever. The Fuhrer began to order State Alchemists to the front lines of the Ishval Civil War and she was one of them. The war changed her into an entirely different person and she even considered throwing away her license because she was so disgusted with the atrocities she committed but she was talked out of it by Roy Mustang and Charles.

But her marriage to her husband Axel fell apart due to his alcoholism and abusive nature which lead to their dramatic divorce. After ten overall years of being on and off, Carmelita and Charles became a couple again and moved in together, blending their families and having twins together in addition to the ten they had from previous marriages.
